How Superior Coco Coir is Born
Step 1: Sourcing with Care
- Clean and Contaminant-Free: We source coconuts from select areas free from industrial pollutants and major sources of harmful chemicals or salts.
- Freshwater Focus: Coconut trees growing near freshwater sources provide the base material for low-salt coco coir products.
- Mature and Dried Husks: Only mature, dried coconut husks yield coco coir with optimal properties for horticultural use.
Step 2: Dehusking & Processing
- Protecting the Pith: Our dehusking methods prioritize preserving the natural texture and structure of the coco pith, ensuring superior performance.
- Coco Chip Creation: Husks are also carefully cut to produce various sizes of coco chips for our blends.
Step 3: Washing, Drying, & Maturation
- The Power of Aging: Processed coco fractions are matured for several months in storage for optimal performance as a growing substrate.
- Purity and Balance: Coco materials are rigorously washed with a combination of freshwater and reverse osmosis water to thoroughly leach undesirables and achieve optimal salt levels and pH. Buffering is performed when needed for specific applications.
- Sun-Dried for Perfection: Controlled sun-drying brings the moisture content down to ideal levels and minimizes exposure to pathogens and pests while preserving the particle structure.
Step 4: Crafting the Final Product
- Quality Control: Each lot of aged coco is tested for EC and pH to guarantee it meets our exacting standards.
- Removing Fines: Precise sifting eliminates any fine dust or stray material, leaving behind beautifully textured coco coir.
- Precision Blending: Sieved coco pith, fibers, and chips are combined in specific ratios for tailored drainage and aeration properties.
- Custom Shapes: The perfected blends are pressed into functional forms that suit your specific growing needs.
